Lava, Amethyst and brass from Ethiopia
 Hestia is the goddess of sacred fire and the hearth in Greek mythology. The eldest of the Olympian gods, Hestia is one of the few who never showed cruelty or selfishness towards mortals or her fellow men. Peaceful, she definitively stopped resorting to violence after the defeat of the Titans.
 Hestia was the first child of the Titans Cronus and Rhea. But her father had heard a prophecy predicting that one of his children would end his reign. He swallowed her so that it would never happen, and did the same with the children who followed. After giving birth to Zeus, Rhea replaced the newborn with a stone before giving it to Cronus who fell into the trap. Once an adult, Zeus made Cronus vomit who thus released his children who had also become adults in the meantime. Hestia was the last to be freed and helped her brothers and sisters defeat their father.
 But Cronus did not give in and called the other Titans to help him. A war ensued between them and the gods that lasted for several years until the gods managed to prevail.
 Her participation in this war was the first and last time Hestia used violence. She also took a vow of virginity and inherited the responsibility of watching over Olympus.
 When Dionysus became the god of wine, Hestia willingly relinquished her throne to him, giving up her position as a major deity but gaining the admiration of her family.
